A while ago I heard a stat that Fergie's United managed 10 consecutive years where they were either first or second, and it got me thinking: Is this a good criteria to quantify "eras of dominance"? So after a bit more rumination I decided to draw up a chart of such eras in the top flight English league since the 1960s.
Of course, as always happens, there was a bit of mission creep and I ended up with charts covering all the major European leagues... I think the result is pretty interesting and informative, at least to my filthy casual eyes.
A team is "dominant" while it finishes first or second in consecutive years, with at least one win.
